Eucharist
The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion) is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1324). During the Mass, we gather around the Lord’s table and remember Christ’s Passion, sacrifice on the cross, His Resurrection, and His Ascension as Jesus instructed us during the Last Supper.
As Catholics, we believe in transubstantiation - the transformation of bread and wine into the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. We ask that only “properly disposed” Catholics receive Holy Communion. This means that the receiving of Jesus’ Body and Blood is set aside for Catholics who are in right relationship with God and with one another. The intention here is not to dissuade anyone from receiving Communion; rather, it is an invitation to heal what is broken, creating a suitable environment for Jesus. The Church recommends going to Confession regularly prior to receiving Communion during Mass.
Practically speaking, Holy Communion is distributed at each Mass. We have options of both regular hosts and low-gluten hosts which are available near the ambo-side of the altar distribution line. Catholics who are not able to receive Communion or non-Catholics are invited to process forward in the priest or deacon’s line for a blessing; please cross your arms over your chest to indicate you would like a blessing.

First Communion Preparation for Youths
Preparation for both First Communion and First Reconciliation typically begins during a child’s 2nd-grade year. We use an amazing program called Signs of Grace by the Augustine Institute and it prepares our kids and their parents in for this great gift in ways that are meaningful and memorable!
St. Francis School students receive their preparation during the school day. Non-school students are invited to sessions on Sundays between the morning Masses during the fall.
For specific youth Sacramental Prep questions, please contact Diane Roddy.
We will open enrollment for Fall 2022 preparation classes soon! (Please note that school students do not need to register for Sacramental Prep - it is included in their school enrollment).
